How many cubic yards fit into an open top semi trailer (40'? 48'?) used for hauling wood chips, etc.?

That's 8' Wide X the Length, figure 6"short for the Doors,+ wall....
Depending on the trailer, Figure 8' or 9' High......

The "average" semi is 9' high walls x 8 1/2' wide x 45' (or 48 or 53 or as shourt as 28) long.

So 9 x 8.5 x 45 = 34425 divided by 27 (27 cu ft in a yard) = 127.5 cu yds however......

Wood chips could weigh too much to be supported by the walls of the trailer and bow the walls out.

There is a hardwood plywood mill here that ships it's chips in open top trailers to a paper mill. When they arrive at the mill the trailer is disconnected and then a crane lifts the entire trailer to dump it out. An interesting sight to see.

sorry; 3 feet times 3 feet times 3 feet is a cubic yard. Don't buy a wet one, and pay for water.

Like buying limerock, if it rained before you bought it( by the ton) you overpaid, due to the water in it. If you notice, no limerock trucks are on the road, after a good rain.
what matters is the volume, and the weight. Is it fluffed? or packed solid?
Volume doesn't matter- the weight is the gist.
