6 cylinder johnson: at idle should all cylinders be running. if you pulled one wire at a time should each one make the engine sound different when pulled(like shut off or change sound of engine running at idle). i pulled one off at a time while in neutral and idling and 4 of the cylinders had no change on engine, one shut off engine, and the other slowed down engine and then shut off (after sending a few volts up my arm). should all cylinders be working at idle or just in gear. I posted a few questions on this motor, appreciate all the feedback, gonna get it checked out at the marina tomorrow or next day, will let you know how it turns out

They all should be working-all the time. You may want to check the compression on all six. They should be 10-15% of one another.

IF all the cylinders are not firing, would this cause the boat to stall under load??

With a 6 cyl your engine should not stall if one cyl is not firing. I would suspect that you have more than one cyl out.

A plug should jump a 7/16" gap when firing. Check all plugs. That will tell you if you have an electrical problem and if so where. Check the condition/color of each plug.

Then follow djohns advice and check compression.

The "how to's" to do this stuff are easily found by asking the appropriate question in the red Search section at the top of the page.
