how much gas at full throttle should a 17 ft lt weight bowrider burn w 1988 merc 80 hp.<br />rode it 1.5 hrs 40 minutes full burned 5 gal is that normal

It goes something like 10% of HP in US gallons per hr at WOT...<br />So an 80hp motor would use 8 gallons per hour flat out. If you can get 40 knots out of it.. it would be getting near 5MPG.. Cruising at 3500-4500 would return better economy.

I have a 69 merc 80HP on a 15' runabout. I probably had about 3-4 gal in the tank and ran at least 3 hours. My tach still isn't working, but I'd say I was runningabout 3000 revs most of the time, but sometimes flat out...
