I'm looking at buying a new (used) boat and wondered about the hours. The boat I'm looking at is a 2001 doral 250se platinum but has 700hrs on it. Owner says they are highway hrs? Is this too much? And how long can I expect the motor to last, it's a Bravo III 5.7l

Hi Doug and welcome to iboats.
If it has been regularly serviced properly you should be O.K.
Does the current owner have any service records ???
It has had about 90 hours per season put on it. I put around 300 hours a year on my car.
Whereabouts in Belle River are you ????

I live on Lakeview, behind Rochester Golf course.
The guy was anal about maintenance and cleaning it. We actually bought the boat. The thing was immaculate. Even the motor was clean.

Hours are all so relative. In Minnesota where the boating season is short, the average is extremely low per year unless you slip or live on a large lake or otherwise. My 2003 Chaparral purchased two seasons ago had about 50 hours on it and a boat could not look any newer but there are tons of boats here just like that so we expect lower hours. In warmer states with bigger water 12 hours (our per season average) is like two days on the water.

we've probably passed you in the channel. We also have a 18.5' bayliner that we docked in the canal across the road.

A well maintained motor with 700 hours will be just fine. Get a Survey.

We bought our Doral bowrider on Aug 28th and had it back to the dealer about 35 days later for winterization and we were already at the 20 hr service. They were amazed we'd put that many hours on but we were loving life.

To bad winter is upon us.......
