How many hours to REMOVE Powerhead and then reinstall? (via book or experience)

Do NOT include removal/installation of the 'add-ons' (fuel/ignition/wiring/etc.), JUST to disconnect the lines, controls, wires, pull the powerhead and get it on the bench, and then to get it back on motor and hook up controls, fuel line and electricals.

Thanks

depends on experience, you have, and whether you have ever done it with that particular motor.

Sorry, I wasn't being clear with my question.

For an experienced service shop, how many hours should I expect to be 'normal' for THEM to pull and replace a powerhead?

Thanks.

I have done it. No more than one hour off, one hour back on.
Does not include time needed to scrape the exhaust adapter gasket, or any other clean up tasks.
I do not pull the lower unit first, some others do.

a brand new or one year old motor can take half the time as a ten year old motor....

i might take 3 hours alone to get 3 broken bolts out!!!!!

I would take a wild guess and think that you are talking a quote or work already done.

The electric impact gun i have would not loosen the bolts from my power head on my 70 hp , which was a salt water motor.

I had to use a breaker bar and moved the bolt about 1/6 th a revolution per pull of the bar!!!!!! it must have been close to 250 ft lbs!!!!

and it is a bear because the bolts are soooooo long.

good luck

1.5 hours max. 20 mins to remove assy, 30 mins reinstall (check linkages/grease drive shaft splines/) 15 min cleanup of powerhead bottom and exhaust plate, 10 mins to install/remove lifting tool, hook/unhook to hoist, roll to bench. 5 minutes parts retrevial for salt usage add up to 2.0 hours and shop supplys (red wrench)

2.5 hrs + .5 hours for each broken fastener is how I would quote it

i have done many powerheads in south fl.If you get the saltwater corrosion problem on older engines it can take all day to pull one,of course thats trying to save parts.you get 6 broken,or stripped mounting bolts and it can become costly,if all goes well,I can have off/on in an hr.But unless its a VERY low hr,engine,it doesnt go well often in salt water

You need to:
a) drop LU (can be a buster if never off or bolts not treated with grease or Permatex)
b) disconnect all external stuff
c) remove adapter nuts/bolts
d) pull powerhead
e) repeat above in reverse order

I would allow ~ 5 hours. I've done it in a lot less on my own motors, taken 7 to 8 hours on customer motors. Salt and fastener condition is the key to how long.
