When I am camping in the middle of no where with my wife and family or on the ocean old thunder stick is always close by (45 auto) for the last twenty years. I don`t need no stinking permit to protect family.......d

I support the 2nd ammendment, but I think this country should go much farther toward keeping handguns out of the hand of those who shouldn't have them. With weapons as readily available as they are, that's practically impossible. I don't have the answer.

I don't have a permit to carry...but I do own several hand guns..I was raised with guns most of my childhood life and into adulthood..ex military and qual'd expert on a few weapons.........now the big question is ...who carries a weapon on their boats........when I'm out for the weekend/week...I usually have a handgun on board and atleast 2 clips.......

Keeping them out of the hands of those who shouldn't have them is impossible. One counter measure would be to require everyone over the age of 21(18?) to be armed.

How do you Libs sort this out with your proclivity to back politicians who think you should surrender all your protection and call 911 when you are out in a big puddle with your family facing down some nasty boys who are considering having their way with you and yours? That allows me the luxury of not blindly following party line rhetoric.......
I have some conservative views & some liberal views....
For instance, I think we should immediately withdraw from Iraq, not to 'Cut & Run', but to give the Iraqis a real opportunity to kill each other, unhindered....
Or, I believe all religion is hogwash, but I won't stop you from worshipping whatever god you choose.....
I'm just saying that it doesn't always have to be black & white.....
Though alot of conservatives see it that way.....
& conversely, the far left sees nothing as black & white, equally bad, IMHO.......

Hmmm, Guess you are a gun totin' moderate Democrat? You sure seem to dislike GW, (and his administration from a left angle), packin' as a truck driver sure makes sense to me. Seems most of the Libs on this forum are far more logical and into personal responsibility then the Libs I run into in Seattle. I'm just tryin' to get a feel for the other posters on this forum. This is a subject very near to my heart. I now live in the Peoples Republic of New York and do have a concealed carry permit which took me 9 months to obtain. Regardless of what the anti gunners think I have never had the uncontrolable urge to pull out my heat and cap someone. I grew up around guns on a farm in Montana where they were a tool as much as a hammer or saw. By this I mean we were 33 miles from the closest town and 5 miles from our closest neighbor. If we had coyotes or other varmits eating our calves we used our "tools" to dispose of them. When I went to high school the entire school was probably 60% farm kids and 90% of the pickups in the parking lot had guns in the rear window gun racks. Not a single person was murdered in my area all of the time I lived there. I believe Thomas Jefferson said "An armed society is a polite society". There are currently over 22,000 firearm laws on the books and if even some of them were enforced there wouldn't be a gun violence problem. The gang bangers that shoot each other and innocent bystanders sure aren't concerned about violating a gun law! If gun control works why are the areas with the most draconian gun laws such as Washington D.C., New York City, L.A., Detroit, etc the areas were gun crime is most prevailant? It is because the bad guys know the good guys are not armed. Refer to the post above by our Aussie friend. They outlawed guns there and people are still getting shot. It makes it much easier for the criminals because they know the honest citizens won't have a weapon to defend themselves. It is so symptomatic of our times that somehow the guns are responsible for killing people, the dirtbag holding it is just a victim and misunderstood. I bet if a person could find the stats that a HUGE percentage of murders that have killed people with a firearm have been arrested many times before for lesser crimes and should have still been in prison. I'll get down off my soap box now......

Hey Ray, I am not very computer literate, nor as ackomplished at posting my internet research as others here; but there are many stats to back your theory up. Australia is one of many examples. This is also an issue that is important enough to me to sway my vote. Some Libs are so irrational, they want to deny any of us the right to protect ourselves, (Rosie comes to mind, not that I want to think about mean mouthy lesbos with armed body guards). JR
