Re: How many of ya'all's wives go fishing with you??

Need a bigger boat to match the bigger pole. After she falls for that. LOL
Actually that's the 'bad part'.... ya know, most guy's who want more expensive 'toys' (in my case, quads, trucks, boat) their wives put, or at least try to put a stop to it... things like, we don't have the money, or what's wrong with the one you have?..... In my case, my wife eggs me on, so-to-speak... just like with my atv.. had a small, old one, she kept saying "We need a bigger quad!".. now with the boat, she's all for it when I say I want to get at least a 21' cuddy cabin.... Now, this may sound awesome and I'm sure there's lots of guy's that would kill to have that.... HOWEVER, when you don't have the money and can't afford said items, it makes it THAT MUCH HARDER to not get stupid and go out and finance, for example, a $10k or more cuddy! lol

my wife loves fishing more than me i think but whens shes on the boat its a pain as shes there to fish im just there to drop anchor and troll wheres shes pointing to. if the daughter comes along then im also on kids duty of tieing hooks and replacing bait etc because my wifes busy fishing. the deal is for every 4 times i go she has to go once so its not all bad..lol

Glenn, you bring up a very good point... I have been working with my wife the last couple of nights teaching her different things like what colors are recommended for conditions, different knot/tying techniques, etc.... and the main reason for all this?? Well, quite frankly the one part dad IS getting kinda 'tired' of, is the fact that typically its myself, the wife, and two oldest boys all fishing... well, sort of... more like them fishing, and dad moving from one pole to the next to undue knots, put on fresh bait, retrieve snags, etc. lol As much fun as it is when I take everyone out, I do have to admit it is more relaxing when me and my dad go out lol.

Well, if this thread has done anything for me, it's made me realize all over again that I'm so glad I found a woman who's a big redneck like me.. lol Along with falling in love with boating/fishing, my wife absolutely LOVES camping... and when we go, we do REAL camping, not in a big RV with AC and a satellite dish... we haven't got to do it in a few years cause of the kids, but a typical camping trip for us consists of loading up the necessities along with our tent in the bed of my truck... drive until we run out of road, then hoof it another mile or so and set up camp... there's a particular place we go to that is well off the beaten path, and even has a good sized pond we fish in.

Also on the chick flick and shopping note, my wife HATES chick flicks AND shopping lol.. she'd rather sit back and watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre with me than some teary-eyed love story... I love it... hehehe

For years, when my daughter was still living at home, if I bought something fishing, I had to buy three, daughter has left home has her on family, now I buy two, sometimes four, two grandsons, I have to get more fishing time for them and us.

I'm learning this as we speak.... on top of the couple hundred I spent on all new gear for my wife in the last couple weeks, my oldest boy turns 10 on saturday. Went shopping yesterday for his b-day gifts and spent about $130 on fishing gear for him.. bought him a new rod/reel combo that he can use to troll with, his other one is an ugly stick ultra-light, which is a great set-up but not really good for fishing the ohio river which is where we mainly go... also bought him a new tackle box and a whole bunch of lures/plastic baits and some tools to keep in his tackle box. Can't wait to see his reaction on Sunday when we have his party, he's been bugging me about getting him a heavier rod/reel so that he doesn't have to use my spare whenever we're at the river.

Well, I pretty much know the feeling.. I have a few buddies that claim to be 'fishermen', but I get them out in the boat, and they fish for maybe an hour, then all they wanna do is burn petrol and run WOT up and down the river.. Aside from my wife, the only other person that I like to fish with (aside from my boy's, of course) is my dad or grandfather.. I mean, I like to have fun when I go out, but if I go with the intention of fishing, that's what I'm there for.... FISHING lol. I always have to take into consideration, though, that a lot of people don't get the same enjoyment I do just being on a boat... don't care if I'm cruising, trolling, drifting or anchored, if I'm in a boat on the water, I'm happy

That's cool! Only about 2hrs. south south-east of me. I live in the very northern tip of WV. My brothers both graduated from Fairmont State, which is around 45 min. from Grafton.

Countryboy, that's us, we just love to be in a boat out on the water. :)

Cherish those memories with Grandpa and Dad, their priceless. Mine are long gone, oh the stories I could tell.

And don't forget your boy's, you'll give them stories that they can pass along.

You've got four generations going here, have y'all ever been in the same boat together?
If so, we need pics. :D

Believe me man, I do cherish the memories. Unfortunately, we haven't all been on the same boat together.. definitely give me an idea though lol. I'm trying to make memories for my boy's, like I have from when I was little... being out on the boat with dad, mom, grandpa.. basically whoever decided to go at the time. In fact, we just got home about 45 minutes ago from being out on the water.. took the wife and two oldest boys down.. we trolled for a while (with the exception of our 6yr old... he doesn't do too well holding the pole while trolling, and I haven't installed my rod holders yet), went and anchored and let them swim for a little bit while the wife and I just relaxed, listened to the stereo and watched them play.. then trolled for probably another 1 - 1 1/2hrs.... didn't "catch" a thing (I had two on within minutes of each other, one got off right by the boat, the other decided he needed my lure more than me and twisted the swivel open). All-in-all a good day on the water. I asked the boys on the way home if the weather in the morning is good, did they wanna go out fishing again, just them and dad and they are both really excited... just praying the rain and storms their calling for hold off till the evening.

Re: How many of ya'all's wives go fishing with you??

My wife LOVES to fish. I can mention fishing and she is ready to go. Don't matter to her where or when. When she has days off, she usually asks me to take her fishing. This year is the first time she has ever used a lure and she loves it. When we went to Myrtle Beach in June, she wanted to go fishing on the pier. We had a blast. The look on her face when she pulled in a flounder was great. We usually go camping right on the water at a lake about 2 hours from home. She always gets up before me and I find her sitting by the water with a fishing pole in her hand.

Ohhh ok, lol.. they must all be north of the New Cumberland dam.. I haven't been up that way on the river in years.. the launch behind the new cumberland f.d. is about 5 min. From my house. We typically run from there down past Browns Island and back up. I've been wanting to launch in Chester and try the fishin up there.
