Re: How many of you out there have run synth at 100:1 in an outboard that calls
Re: How many of you out there have run synth at 100:1 in an outboard that calls
I'm with you, Bill. What the heck. If the manufacturer of an engine specifies what mix you should use, and of what oil, then I can't see any reason to vary from that.

If someone wants to take their chances on a several thousand dollar engine, then they should be my guest.

Myself, if I had an engine with that much invested in it, I'd be following manufacturer's recommendations to the letter.

As it happens, my Johnson RDS-20 outboard dates back to 1958. It's supposed to use a 24:1 ratio. So, I mix a whole quart of TCW-3 in the 6-gallon tank. I have no idea how many hours are on that 47-year-old motor, but it's still ticking along and planing my boat out with no problems.

I can't imagine why I'd experiment with something that works just fine. Just follow the blue cloud and you can see my ugly boat.
