Of course they do. Older tools were that way. Back then, stuff was made to last. These days, the world is into disposable everything. That includes cars, boats, outboards etc. Our shop is full of Delta and Craftsman tools from before the war, and during the early 50s, that are well ahead of modern tools as far as quality.Do ya ever wonder why we all seem to still have motors that are 30, 40, 50 years old? I always felt that these models were easier to work on and lasted much longer than you would expect. Hey, wait a minute, I forget to include my electrics:
30 MK
40MK
Nightstalker

Actually, happily married. My wife accepts it, even if she doesn't understand it...

BaconBiscuit--I want to see your merc 20 with 11 hrs. on it when you get it. How about a pic of the others?
Me:
1942 2.5hp johns. HD-20 running, needs new condensors, though.
1955 7.5hp evin. -perfect
1953 10hp johns. * 2, one great, one not adj. right yet.
1955 10hp johns.--I love it.
1956 10hp johns. --love it, but needs a new skeg
1956 15hp evinrude --love it, runs great, needs paint/decals/ lower crank seal for reliablity
1957 18hp johns. *2 --love 'em, one leaks a little, prob. drain plug washers
1958 18hp evinrude--can't live without it
1976 merc. 7.5hp--like it, but won't have it long
1972 merc. 9.8hp--like it a whole lot, plan on keeping it forever
1984 merc. 25xd electric start --bought it for my dad, needs decals and l.u. work for reverse slippage, but runs great
1999 johnson 25hp-- duck hunting workhorse
Paid for but hasn't arrived yet--1954 evinrude 25hp electric start tiller (I'm very excited to see it and get it running).
I'd like a 50's 3hp one day to complete all my oldy urges and possibly an early 50's johnson 25 and I will be "finished" with my collection.
The End?

If you don't hurry up I'm going to finish my '53 evinrude 25hp and beat you to the pic posting! I can't wait to see your merc---make sure you get some good closeups from the front and sides. Probably my favorite looking black mercury of all time below 90hp. That red seems to just glow against the black.
Later,
JBJ
