I live in Northwest Chicago and I'm wondering how many times per year you take you boat out? I'm at 13 year to date and with good weather at the end I'm probably going to get out about 18 times.

Situations are different for sure. We go over 250 miles to where we boat so we always make it long weekends or vacations. I will only have gone on 7 trips, but that will be a total of 26 days on the water after Labor Day. Someimes we go out 1 or 2 more times, but not always. School gets in the way.

I could not even guess a number that would come close.

I get the boat ready in May, and if it is 70deg or warmer, we are out. I don't pu it away until the leaves have changed. We'll wear long sleeves if we have to.
A typical week for us, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Weather permiting.
And now and then we get out once or twice throught the week.
And lets not forget vacations, there is one and two weeks straight on the water.
I was just in Chicago two weeks ago. Did the Great Loop from the river to the lake to the cal sag. Good time.

Now that school and sports have started, we will only get out on Sundays:(.

I used to get out even more, more my fishing boat has not seen water in over two years. Noticed the other day when I went to get some rags, my propellor shaft is leaking oil. Guess I still won't be taking it out.

Re: How many times per year do you go out?

I go out the first of May and come in the end of September. Wishful thinking at least.

I just bought mine and have been out every weekend since I got it, but I know that won't be the case every year. Luckily I can be in the water in less than 1/2 hour from where I live. Yesterday, with the cold weather, we were only out for a little over an hour, which would have been a real waste had we had to drive further.

i don't think i'd be a very motivated boater if i had to trailer for an hour or more like lots of folks do. we tend to go out early morning and during the week.

if anything, we're waiting for summer to end. hottest on record here. 103 is the theme this year....can't wait for some cooler weather.

we try to do twice a month in the summer, one of those weekends is usually a 2 or 3 day trip. its about an hour or 1 1/2 hours depending on where we go, but that doesnt really bother me much.

At least twice a week from May through November. Usually a couple of times a month depending on weather from December through April.

Been out 19 times since buying the boat in April. I try to get out on Fridays and Sundays if weather works out.

Re: How many times per year do you go out?

I'm sorry, but this poll needs more options. I go out at least one day every weekend, weather permitting, but normally every Saturday and Sunday year round. Well, when I'm home at least. Florida is a boater's paradise. We can boat 360 days a year, give or take 5 for hurricanes. Our thunderstorms last for less than an hour, so rain doesn't stop me from going out. I am coming home on Sept 4th and taking that week off, so I plan on being out every day.:p

Re: How many times per year do you go out?

I've always calculated it with the "turn-key cost". Add up all of the annual costs of payments, insurance, dock fees, storage fees, maintenance, fuel, and food & beverage supplies. Divide by the number of times you turn the key for the first time each outing to start the engine.

My 20-footer was paid for. It was trailered and stored in my driveway. We used it several times a week. The turn-key cost was well under $35.

The 25-footer had no payments, but it had to be stored and docked. Its turn-key cost last season was about $75 and we used it at least three times a week.

I've owned the 32-foot aft cabin for six weeks. With the weather this season as horrible as I can recall, we're lucky to be out once or twice a week. The turn-key so far is around $300. That will decrease to around $200 this season, and hopefully will be around $150 next season.

All weekend everyweekend during the summer. And typically about twice weekly. Alas now school has started and so no more weekday trips but still will be on the water all weekend everyweekend until about mid November. Then pick up in early March. Figure the boat needs a break too:cool:
