Re: how much bellows adhesive???

PLEASE don't take this the wrong way, but STOP giving wrong advice, someone is going to take your advice, and get themselves into trouble.

May I suggest you go to the adults only link and download your manual and do some reading.

You seem to mean well, learn some of this stuff and help some people

I think you are talking about the person you are quoting here. Note sure though. If you care to elaborate. I am sure everyone would benefit. Sounds like we are learning as we go. I know I am. Exactly what wrong info is being relayed please and thank you.

Yes, I was replying to the person I quoted, hence why I quoted him ;)
He said not to use adhesive, and that is wrong, even according to my manual, and my boat is 32 years old. I'd hate to see someone not use adhesive on their shift and u-joint bellows, and have their boat sink.

sand the flang and clean with engine degreaser.let it dry. apply adhesive on flang and bellow, it helps slide on and your golden !!! its not hard to take the bellow off when you change them again down the road. just be quick when you apply the adhesive.

Re: how much bellows adhesive???

Hi everyone. Just wanted to says thanks to all that posted on this thread. I greatly appreciate all the help and suggestions. I have everything back together. I didn't even use a exaust bellow expander. If I was to do it again I would buy one just because I spent an extra 30 min. or so messing around with it. Also I waited until I got exaust and ujoint bellows on before I put the shift cable on. I would next time put the shift cable on first. just because the thread didn't want to start because of the cable running in the back of the boat. I didnt use the special socket that you are suppose to use so it is possible, but not fun. I used a wrench and made small turns until it was in all the way. I also thought the threads on the bell housing seemed a little loose so I put pipe tape on the shift cable threads just to make sure water didn't find its way in. I think I would buy the socket next time aswell. I think what I am saying is I like to do things the hard way, and I am far to cheap.
Thanks again. Happy boating..:)
