How much cloth to use

Hello fellow fun seekers! I hope someone has some performance tested advice on the following:

Plan: I have access to a mold(s) for a 16' Kennedy Marlin, which is a good fast racing hull that also has a second top mold for a bass boat. Former racer/owner of Kennedy boats used to make a stripped down version that was a 500 pound hull.... Apparently he used 18 oz cloth. I hope to build a bass boat as I can get access to the mold(s). I also have access to various cloths and already have lots of nida core in the garage (wife in the business)

1/ Was he using 1 or 2 layers of 18 oz and given the extra weight of a fish/ski design (50 lb trolling motor, 150 lbs batteries both up front, 200 pounds of fuel under mid/rear fold down seat, 384 pound Evinride ficht on the back, 2 live wells, etc) What cloth/CSM combo should I use?

2/ If I was to have access to expert labour, and planned to vacuum bag, what combo would I use if I was to do a sandwich core plan for the hull with 1/2" nidacore?

3/ Alternitives to wood for the transom? I thought of using nidapour but would have to build a "dam"

oops!

3 layers of 1708 bi ax.....vac bagged to a 60% cloth 40 resin.....(ive heard of 70/30 but....)

forget the core material....the biax with gellcoat is more than strong enough....especially in a vac pac situation.....really light....very strong......if your rich....go epoxy

penski board for strings and transom........done....!

good on you for getting the molds....you gonna go into production?

Thanks Oops! I would love to build some of these great little boats but that will have to wait for a few years....between family life and career not much time left....

I noticed you are in Kelowna...I am in Markham (Toronto) but grew up on the Okanogan just outside Vernon - OK Landing. We were waterskiing before we could walk....

Cheers, and thanks again!

Say, a couple more questions if I may...

1/ For the Penske board - 2 X 3/4 inch with 1708 sandwiched/clamped in between?

2/ For the ratio, do you go by weight and spread it out as evnly as you can?

Depending on the type of Nidacore product you have it may be difficult to use in the hull. Honeycomb panels don't bend easily, so they need to be used on flat surfaces, this will limit the areas on the hull where it would possible to use it. On curved surfaces you typically use balsa or foam that's cut into small squares with a scrim glued to one side, this allows it follow the curve.
