Re: How much for this boat?

Thanks Cheapboatkev for responding,

I am actually going to go and look at that boat after work today also.

The one you linked (in the pictures) looks much nicer but haven't seen that one in person yet.

The only thing is I talked to that guy he said that boat only has about a 50HP 2 stroke motor on it.

Well I would like to pull a tuber and skiier, would that do the job or would I need 135HP?

Again, I can't thank you all enough for your help!

It's alright to look at it, but don't go in with the thought in your head that this is the one I'm going to get if I can get it for such in such a price, that will bite you in the arse. That boat won't be going anywhere for a long time with a $3,000 price tag on it. Patience is the key if you want a good deal, think with your head, and not with your heart.

That's a good piece of advice. I bought what I thought I wanted for my first boat (closed bow go fast ski boat) I hated it  It was a good boat and looked sharp but just didn't work for me and my family. Luckily I was able to get most of my money out of it and get a boat that works better for us. So look around and maybe ride in as many types of boats as possible before buying.

See if the present owner is willing to take you out in the boat for at least an 30 minutes of normal usage in this boat to show you "how great it runs". Take someone with you who has outboard motor experience (real mechanical experience & training). Then you'll find out what it needs ($) to make it reliable and subtract that from NADA. That would be the high end price.
Trying to save money up front will probably cost you more money in the long run.

I think that looks like good solid boat and has great power with the 135. It's going to be a rocket. Tri-hulls do beat you pretty good on rough days (but so does my shallow V-bottom). Very stable though and great for fishing. His price is much too high though mainly due to age. Those big V4's were great motors but unless this one was regularly maintained and used often it's going to have dirty carbs at least. If the owner was willing to take you for a ride I'd definitely take him on it.
