Planning to buy 16ft aluminun flatbottom boat. Yamaha g3 model 1652. Is 25hp enough to get it up on a plane and move at a reasonable speed.

its not going to be a speed demon but it should get you on plane just fine.

Should be if its a basic utility style, but maybe not if its one of those deep and wide modified bass boats that come up when I put Yamaha g3 model 1652 into google. The max rating of those boats is around 50-60hp. The general rule is to match the boat to a motor that is at least 75% of the max rating, which would be around 40hp. 25 hp should push you along, but you might find it underpowered.

Its sort of apples and oranges, but I find that the 20hp on my 14.5' modified V aluminium boat is the bare minimum to get two +200lbs guys and gear up on plane. The max rating for that boat is 28hp.

yup, might get on plane but you're going to feel underpowered with only 50% of the rated HP

25 on a 16 Flatbottom should be ok, but I'd go for 40-50 if ya can...
