What problems are you having with the 'Rude 150, Robert? What have you done to troubleshoot and fix it?

What makes you think an 11 year older outboard with 35 less HP is going to work better?

My advice? Save yourself a bundle of problems and bux by fixing the outboard you have.

I've never met anyone that was satisfied with less horsepower. I liken it to splenda over sugar, what a scam that is. I'd take JB's advice and try to fix what you have unless you blew it up.

There's also a big difference between a '77 and a '78. If you go that route, find out what year it is.

Well for starters the compression is low but you all couldnt under stand why all six cylinders were around 70psi. this was last summer when i wrote in. the motor starts fine and run good but when you run it for a long tim it will just quit running at top speed, it will go but never rev just hum. Now i wrote in the "wires are getting hot" thread yeasterday and the person that responded said it could be the rectifier. check it out and im going home now and ill be back in an hour or so. thank you

Re: How much is a motor worth?

70 psi is not unreasonable for that engine, Robert. The big V6s often measure that low when in fine shape. The fact that thay all read the same is proof that it is mechanically sound.

The probability that all 6 cylinders would go bad by the same amount at the same time is beyond calculation. It just doesn't happen.

Please explain more clearly what it means that "it will go but never rev, just hum" after a long run.

Your hot wires are a different issue, which is easy to fix.

Re: How much is a motor worth?

Well when i first bought it i took it to tx (i live in Nm) took it out had a hard time starting it then it fired up. ran like a champ then i took it across possum kingdom and on my way back it just drop power. the tack didnt work so i couldnt tell the rpm's. it ran at the speed and sounds like you are though the no wake area and bog if you gave it wot. then i ran out of gas. when i got gas it fired up and ran fine. did it again the next day. came home!!! cleaned the carbs and took it to local lake and coming out of the no wake it would never rev my buddy took off and then it like burped a cuple time then took off. didnt have another problem rest of weekend. ran it again in oct. and never gave me a problem. these all are small runs(we have small lakes) and the boat never had to go more then 15 min. i just wanted to pull the drain plug and sink it in tx. where am i at with this thing. i went to get ready to got to a tounament this weekend and now wire are smoking. where do i start. thak you for your time.

Re: How much is a motor worth?

I think you've got two unrelated problems that are causing you some confusion. 1st you need to solve the wiring issue. Smoking wires means something has been shorted out. What wires are smoking? Your non-working tach could be a smoking gun pointing to the rectifier/regulator, but we need more specifics.

Your other problem sounds like a stuck or misadjusted float or an air leak, but certainly sounds fuel related.
