Very nice, if you're on a calm lake, it will be worth every bit of 2K just for the smiles!

Re: How much is it worth?? Help me settle a bet!!!

Thanks again for the great responses!!! Still pretty cold in Illinois so haven't been back out on the water yet. Got the bottom clean and have not changed the prop yet. With the bottom bad dirty and a 17 pitch prop it ran 5600 RPM's. I think the recomended for a 1981 Tower of Power was around 5300 RPM's. I have a new 19 pitch prop ordered and will keep the 17 for a spare.

I think all of you have her convinced that we made a good investment...But I can't divuldge what the bet was for...but I won!!! ;)

well you people in the states who say its about right price are very lucky people.
In the uk that boat in the condition in the pics would easily fetch ?3,000 thats about $4500 us dollars.
its looks like a very nice boat.
The engine in good running condition would fetch ?2,000 ($3000) on its own easy.

i think you got a bargain .

I wonder if your wife knows that this boat could snap knicker elastic at 100yards on a hot day at the beach !!!!!!!!!!

I think the 19 pitch prop will be for pulling power like skiing and running with your fat buddies, etc, I assume you have some. ;)
You got way high RPMs with a dirty hull, bet you could run a 21 on that boat unless you keep it full of stuff.

btw. Boat came out great, wet sand & polish rules. I did mine last spring, what a satisfying result. huh?

The 115 is a 150. Merc changed the badging when the V-6 came out and did not want to have two 150's in there lineup. They like to run closer to 6 grand and hate being lugged around,so do not over pitch it.Parts are readily available all over the country, just have to know where to look.Try posting in the Mercury forum for specifics.

All boats are worth what somebody's willing to pay and prices are HEAVILY influenced by location, condition, and demand for that specific boat type in the given area.

I highly doubt that boat would sell easily in my area for anything over $2000. Anything could happen once, but in general I think the combination of age and the dated lowrider design would work against getting much more than $2k with ease.

But YMMV. In a different area with different bodies of water and different boating preferences, I can see it fetching up to $3k, maybe even $4k in pristine restored condition.

I have to agree with the above post, it would be a hard sell here too, but I don't think it's got anything to do with the boat or its age.
I've watched some pretty amazing deals just linger around here because there's just no money right now.
I picked up a late model Mercury 115hp for $400 in turn key shape. It sat on CL for two months with no takers at $600.
Lately it's simply not a matter of what something is worth but how much the potential buyers have to spend or are willing to part with.
Those with cash lately are few and far between.

As far as what that boat should bring, I'd say you got a steal, the motor should be worth somewhere in the $1500 range alone.
If it were mine and it were for sale, I'd not part with it in that condition for less than $4800 or so. If it didn't sell, I'd just sit on it till someone who recognized its value and had cash came along.

There's a big difference between what something is worth and what most people want to pay for it.
As a good example, a neighbor of mine just bought a new jet ski, the price tag was over $10k, how much it don't really matter, because to me, it has no value, I wouldn't give $100 for it, let alone what he paid. I have no use for it and no desire to own one.
To me a boat is something that keeps you out of the water and dry.
