i have a 16' jon boat flat bottom is it to much to put a 25 hp mercury on it?

What is the boat rated for?<br /> My bare bones Crestliner 18 utility has a 50 and is rated for 55.It really flies empty and planes easily regardless of the load.

2 X Length X Width - 90 = rated HP Of course this doesn't take into account the super-lightness of an aluminum jon boat.

Don't flat bottom jon boats generally have a smaller max HP capacity than a similar length and width v-hull boat? I'm not sure about that, but I seem to remember reading that on the guidelines for rating a hull for HP.
