When you are filling it, you will be using the bottom screw to fill from. With top screw removed, squeeze filler until oil comes out of top screw hole(Some LU's will have two top srews and one bottom screw for draining). Screw the top screw(s) back down, making sure the "O" ring(s) is/are seated correctly. Remove the oil filler and insert the bottom screw and tighten making sure the "O" ring is seated correctly. You must do this quickly so the oil doesn't start running out. Clean the excess oil from the drain plugs and discard all rags and used oil in an environmental safe container. Pat yourself on the back you are done!

Re: HOW MUCH OIL IN THE LOWER UNIT ?

Your lower unit holds 26 ounces of lube, 0.79 liter.

Remove top screw(s) to vent out the air.
Remove bottom screw.
Insert oil bottle into bottom screw hole.
Squeeze oil into lower unit until it is full and oil overflows from the top hole(s).

Now, have someone replace the top screw(s).
Finally, remove the oil bottle from the bottom hole and quickly insert the screw.

No you don't need to turn your boat upside down, the whole prosess is done from the bottom up, it might sounds funny but it is the way it works, ROSCOE couldn't have explained it any better, follow that procedure ...

And you don't need to remove the lower unit. Look for the two or three small screws on the right side (if you are looking towards the bow of the boat) of the lower unit just below the cavitation plate and above the skeg. Nice boat there DJC!

Re: HOW MUCH OIL IN THE LOWER UNIT ?

Actually it might be even easier than roscoe says. "IF" there are two (2) screws at the top under the cavitaion plate. 1 will say fill 1 will say vent. Remove the >>>Allen<<<< screw on the bottom of the lower unit. If you remove the screw on the front of the unit you will mess things up pretty goood. The allen screw is there near the front but on the bottom of the unit.

1. Remove all three screws and let the unit drain in the up or trailering position for 10 minutes.
2. Put the allen screw back in.
3. Lower the motor till the cav plate is parallel to the ground.
4. put 80W-90 gear GL-4 oil into the Fill hole.
5. When the oil come out the vent hole stop filling.
6. Put new seals on the Fill and vent screws and tighten then up.

Easier than the push if from the bottom method. And thats the way it was designed to be done.

To answer the question buy the quart bottle. :) You will have 4-8 oz left over.

I have to put my SeaRay 290 up against you. The Bayliner won't cut it. The Magnum kicks butt! I have topped it out at 48+ with 2 to 3 foot chops.

Filling from the bottom ensures that you don't overfill the LU. Remember as the oil heats up, it will expand and you don't want to blow a seal out.

Sure lake runner I'll take you on any day, I get about 55mph out of it, but I'm upgrading to a 70hp yamaha now, the dealer down here is putting it together for me with a tiller arm, should get about 100mph out of it. If I kill myself, you will see me lying in my coffin with a smile on my face :)

Re: HOW MUCH OIL IN THE LOWER UNIT ?

Thanx for all info, i fill from the tophole and then stops when i get oil out from vent-hole. Then i open the bottom screw and take out a little to prevent that there is to much.

Now the boat runs great...........
