I'm debating on starting to prep my boat for paint it is a 17 foot sportcraft eagle. And just wanted to get idea of about how much paint primer etc i'll need so i can work out a budget. It doesn't need to be perfect it's an old boat I'm just going to fish with and will always be trailered but it's ugly and needs painted. I'm planning on just going white and spraying everything with Interlux non sanding primer, Interlux ACT bottom paint and Interlux bright sides. I understand I have a whole lot of prep ahead of me and that it is the most important I just have no idea how much paint I will need and if I even need a bottom type paint when it's always going to be trailered and not in salt water. Any help sugestions wood be great !

it depends on what type of paint you are planning on using

Measure the square footage needed to be covered by each type. Look to see the coverage for the paint. IE if it says 100 sq ft per quart that is for one coat. If the recommended number of coats is 4 and you need to cover 100 sq ft you need four quarts. If it is 2 coats you would only need 2 quarts.
Hope that helps. Others get a little more technical and talk about paint thickness etc.

Sorry i'm not really answering you question but it sounds as if you are on a budget.

From the sounds of it, you might want to skip the bottom paint and just opt for a good topside paint. The purpose of a bottom paint as I understand it is to prevent growth on the bottom. Trailered boats do not sit in the water and don't usually need that feature, and topside paints are usually quite a bit cheaper than the bottom paints.

Where I have worked we used awlgrip paints on the bottom of trailered boats(not saying you should or shouldn't use them, they are pretty expensive).

O.K. - when you say 'ugly' do you mean from fading or just the color is bad? There are other alternatives to painting if you just want to bring out the shine. Here's a link you might want to look through before you put a sander to her : http://www.boatus.com/boattech/casey/01.htm :D
