i have some up and down play in the bushings on the aft connection to my hydraulics on mhy alpha one gen 2....there is also alittle play port to starboard (i suppose port to starboard play is coming from the the hinge pins in the gimble housing) i suppose this is just from normal wear and tear? the gimble hinge pins are grease religiously since they have fittings. is this something that is normal because it seems to me that everything should be nice and tight. i like to maintain things so they dont break down on me...i beleive that the bushing would be fairly easy to replace but what about the gimble housing hinge pins?

The first thing you should do when you have side to side play play on an Alpha is retorque the gimbal ring screws to 55 ft lb. Those are the two bolts at the top of the gimbal ring. They have nuts so you will have to get a box end wrench on the backside. They clamp the ring onto the square upper swivel pin which can loosen over time. Should do this every spring anyway. Check out Merc manual #4 Transom Major. Worn hing pins is rather unlikely. Yeah, replace the bushings. Good luck.
