How much resin to buy...?

I've got a small project going...

Just looking for a guideline on how much resin to buy.

Does anybody have a "guide" for how much resin it takes per yard for various mats and cloths, (primarily 1708 biax, 3/4 chopped strand mat, and 1-1/2 chopped strand mat)?

Im sure there are members right now googlin this info up for ya..have you done any research yourself to verify the answers about to come ?

Depends on the job.. are you using fillers or extesive small repair.

Small projects normally mean you get a gal of resin and fix it.. but your talkin resin/yard ratio ....which im gonna think thats not a small repair

This Might Help

Here is a helpful table for cloth:
There are about 150 ounces per gallon by weight
1.5 ounce cloth ( cloth not chopped mat)?.1 gallon wets out 40 square yards
2.5 ounce cloth?.1 gallon wets out 25 square yards
4 ounce cloth??1 gallon wets out 15 square yards
6 ounce cloth??1 gallon wets out 10 square yards
10 ounce cloth?..1 gallon wets out 6.5 square yards
18 ounce woven roving ?1 gallon wets out 4.5 square yards
24 ounce woven roving ?1 gallon wets out 3.5 square yards.
Biaxial mat 1708.????.. 1 gallon wets out 4 square yards
Please remember several things:
- these are estimates not hard and fast rules.
- if you are laminating over wood, the raw wood will soak up some resin, which is good, but you will use more resin on the first layer.

I want to get rid of the aluminum posts under the leaning post.
I am building a mold to fully enclose underneath, (using the existing top and glassing onto it).

Lay-up will be...
1 layer of 3/4 cs mat for the first layer on the gelcoat
1 layer of 1708 biax
1/4 marine ply coring for planned mounting points and an area to cut in a hatch
finish up with 1 layer of 1708 biax or 2 layers of 3/4 cs mat, (I've gotten conflicting info so feel free to offer opinions).

yep...that's what I was looking for.

The leaning post footprint is 36" x 20" and I'm laying up a 22" high "box" onto the bottom of it.

Each layer in the lay-up is a little over 2 yards.
