It really sounds in great shape but $3,000 for a 14ft boat with 35hp sounds really high.

and 30 years old at that.

something like that would go for around $2000 here.

Re: How Much should I ask for this boat?

Are the motor and trailer also 30 years old?

The person who will pay more than it's "worth" is a friend who knows and appreciates the care you've put into it; perhaps a savvy buyer will pay a little extra. But selling old boats is like selling houses--the money you put in to them does not add value; it just prevents a subtraction.

So rather than try to recapture your "investment" consider that as money spent for 30 year's pleasure operating it.

Man.... I like the looks of that boat!!! Guys at the other forum I frequent would be drooling too.:)

I think the price has to reflect other boats of similar design in your area....
In my area that would sell fairly quick...... even at 3k ;)

I agree with Perchin. You need to look at comps in your area (if you haven't already). We can't really help with that since your profile doesn't tell us where you are (hint). Around here you could realistically expect to get around $1500. As cool and reliable as it is it's still a 14' john. I'm not knocking flatbottoms; I feel incomplete if I don't have one in my yard. But, they just aren't worth that much in the secondary market here because there are so many of them. That may not be the case where you are. Good old supply and demand. I learned that the hard way years ago when I fancied one up and expected to sell it at a premium. Incidentally, a 35 horse seems a little strong for a 14' john. I gather you haven't had any issues since you've been using it. Just a thought.
