how much should this cost---ball park figure please

I have a 1986 85hp force motor that I pulled head off and found that 3rd cylinder had a1/8 " crack in top ring-- what is estimate on what this would cost to fix??I figured I would replace all three rings on this cylinder----other two cylinder look fine

You'll probably find only 2 rings on the piston.
IF??? There is no scoring and it's just a ring job.
$30-60 for each set of rings.
$80-120 for the gasket set.
$8 for black silicone.
$85-130 each piston.


You should probably hone the cylinders.Get it done as a machine shop does a better job.
Also replace the rings on all the pistons.


If you find scoring on the walls or damage on the piston skirt.
Boring can be as low as $40 and as much as $200

Some charge $800+ for a one piston rebuild.
That gives you an idea of the cost if you get it done.
Where are you located?
You might be close to someone who can help?

Wiseco Pistons are probably the best, only drawback is you HAVE to use their rings and wristpins.

Yeah, but Wiseco pistons come fully equipped with rings and wrist pins. You do, however, need to buy the con-rod small end bearing kit---I think it is still around 15-18 bucks.

In my opinion, if there is any cyl scoring it is worth rebuilding the power head right from scratch. The investment to do all Pistons is worth the time and effort. To do one does not make economical sense, or the time. In the end you know your dependable

does rebuild mean I should have all three cylinders horned and put new pistons in each cylinder?is that a complete power head rebuild? or is there anything else I should do to power head? I live just outside of Fayetteville north Carolina--does anyone know of good place to have this done

Rebuild means???
It could be considered a rebuild if you only do 1 piston or 3.
To save money you can do 1 piston(if it's bad).
No need to replace a good part.
If there is no damage just changing the rings is all you need.

There's usually a reason something went bad???
Try to figure out what happened before you tear it apart.
Check the carbs, air screws all set about the same, puddle drains clogged, linkage off, timing off?

I rebuilt Gregsmers motor 2 years ago. I only replaced one piston out of 4 and it's still running.

I'm in Fl. Ship it to me. Maybe ship it to Pa. to FrankA.

I looked at wiseco web-site have four different size piston how do I know which one I will need to replace mine ??is there a gauge to measure piston wall size....I was planning to buy new wiseco piston new con-rod bearing kit--and new gasket kit..is that all the parts I need to fix this cylinder????

You didn't say there was damage to the cylinder??
To figure out the size needed?
IF???? It needs bored?
The shop who does the work will tell you how much they cut out.
Could be .010 up to .040 Hope it's closer to .010
