While testing my 1955 Evinrude Fleetwin 7.5, I am noticing a fairly good amount of smoke. It isn't consistent and only lasts for about 5-10 seconds after start but its there.

I am going 50/1 mixture.

It hasn't ran very much over the past few years so am just wondering if it is kind of "cleaning" itself out.

Also, in my testing tank, there is quite a bit of oily gunk forming around the rim, normal output from old outboards?

thx all.

I believe that engine uses bushings not needle bearings in the wrist pins. If that is the case then 16:1 would be the recommend ratio. If I am wrong and the engine does have bearings in the wrist pin then the mixture is 24:1.

if ya go to 50:1.....the engine will definitely stop smoking in short order. you will destroy it. spend the extra few bucks on high quality oil and stop worrying about a bit of smoke !! jmo

Besides, on cool windless days consider it Mosquito Control

I'd use 24:1 in that motor. And as said above, let it smoke. Besides that it smells good.:)
