How much stress am I putting on my Johnson 70 outboard? I have a 16' bow rider. I usually take 2-4 people with me and we go knee boarding, wake boarding and or tubing. I can feel when the guy on back pulls on the hydrodslide and I was wondering if I am working my motor to hard or is it fine and thats what its for? Just curious.

As long as you can operate at the correct WOT rpm, you will be fine.

what is your WOT rpm? If the motor is lugged very much, bad things happen.

Jixxxer,
If you post the year and HP of your engine in the Johnson/Evinrude forum, someone will give your WOT (wide open throttle)rpm recommendations.
Ideally you would set up with prop size to have your engine to run at or slightly less rpm when you have boat loaded normally (approximately same number of people, gas load and equipment. Good luck

You need a tachometer to determine what your wide open throttle rpm is. If its lower than what the manufacturers spec is, you need a prop with less pitch. If its higher, you need a prop with more pitch. Generally for water sports you need two props. One for water sports and one for cruising. If you do more water sports than cruising, select a prop for that purpose. For cruising, you just need to throttle back a little to keep from over reving.

WOT also should be found in the owners manual for the outboard. If you can feel your skier pullin back, make sure whereever the rope is connected to the boat is a strong connection. I have seen ski eyes pull out before and the move...quick

Belchy
