how much to take off head to clean up

I have a 1986 140 rude, it caught a ring and am rebuilding now. I want yo clean the dings of the had that the ring caused. My question is how many thousands can I remove. This motor is first time rebuild, everything is std sized. thanks in advanced

Your best best is to get another head. Any left over ridge, groove, ding or other deformity can create a hot spot when you get the motor running again. I'm sure you can find a used head in Austin somewhere.

I am looking for head now, but is there a max amount that can be removed with out causing too much compression. Im looking at possibly .010 to get the head cleaned up

Thats about the max. Look for another head. Make sure it has the exact same casting number.

I'll try again (having BIG problems posting)<br /><br />The area that you shave should have no ring damage as it is the mating surface.Your damage is in the dome,near the sparkplug hole.I don't know of a repair for this.<br /><br />DHP
