I don't know that this is the right place to ask so move it if you think we should.

I am dealing with an old arrowglass 17.5 foot I/O with a 165 hp electric shift etc etc

The trim motor is bad, I have one on order but we are taking her out again tomorrow.

last time i took it out. I got on it and the bow came up.. so I moved 4 passengers forward and she trimmed out good came on plane pretty decent.

I can tun the select trim by hand for now, BUT how much do I move it? for a temp fix?

I turned it all the way up which was only about 1" (lifted the front of the motor about 1") then it topped out. The mount is sagging a little and the stringers might be saggin a little too so I think being all the way to the top (as far as I can tell) might not be too bad,

anyway question is did I make a HUGE change in trim by moving the motor that much? OR how much do I lift/drop the motor to make a typical trim adjustment..

I can trim it by hand at the lake so it;s not a HUGE deal but I would like to be close and not have to try and adjust it 20 times once on the water..

thanks for any input.. going out first thing in the morning so even educated guesses would be appreciated

:D

mine's hydraulic, but the front of the motor moves quite a bit - probably close to 8 inches at the waterpump pulley - a lot of travel. an inch (measured there) wouldn't make a noticeable change on mine.

put it in the middle of it's range

Re: How much to trim

Thanks Howard...

I am near the TOP of its range and It still wants to go nose up in the water unless I put a couple people up front.

I am really confused on this one.

I towed the kids around in the tube. it took me some effort to get on plane with them in the tube... once I got on plane all went smooth.

same issue though had to put everyone forward.

at reat it sits level in the water so I dont think it is tail heavy.. I am taking a LITTLE bit of water. but not much I turn the bilge on every 30 mins or so and it pumps out about a gallon of water... I am thinking I have a live well drain line leaking because that is the only place I seem to be wet on the inside.. (near the wells) I filled the bilge with water before I went out and nothing leaked out anywhere..

Anyways I am hoping to get my trim motor in the mail in a couple days. I think I will shim the front of the motor up a bit more than it is now. so I can trim it DOWN if I need to.

part of it might be the rubber is a little old and soft causing the front to sag a bit.. plus the stringers seem a little lower in the front than the back so I probably have a little rot... and all of that is adding up.

Thanks again howard. It was just nice taking the kids out and dragging them around for several hours and have everything go pretty darn well. only minor issues..
