How high does gas have to go before we look into downsizing on our bigger toys. Its going to cost me over 650 bucks just to go north and back. Not counting boat gas, bait, and food.

I went out and i say tried to look at more efficient foreign rides the other day. Just Picture a 6'5'' man weighing in at 260 lbs trying to sit i mean get into these mini cars. Is not a pretty picture i can tell ya .

There is no in between for me. At 5 bucks a gallon my boating and travel will be a rarity to be sure.

hello,

some are saying oil will go to $200-$250 a barrel in less than 5 yrs. europe pays 8/9 a gallong and canada is 5/6 a gallon. some are saying americans will just gripe up to about 6 a gallon, then cut back. heck, i already have...

china, india etc are ok with european priced gas costs as they have no precedent at $.11 a gal. for example. so cost is not so much the issue as they factor it into costs of production of goods, foods, items etc.

it is every young chinaman's drean to own his own car. they dont as a society drive currently as americans do. they will be content with very economical personal transportation. no corvettes, cadillacs, big SUVs with TVs, etc. no 13 mpg sluggs... 45 mph + no doubt.

go figger... that demand will drive the price of oil up. some say we have the resources domestically, but cost to extract and process will go up.

no free lunch, we have already had it. ;)

i could go on, but wont.

regards
lakester

Re: How Much

Time to prioritize spending. To many folks spending money in to many different directions.

Me-thinks that in this country that some of the older style family life is fixing to make a reappearance (More doing stuff together instead of everybody scattering out).

For me the cost of boating and fishing come first. And as I have stated before I don't care if goes to $10.00 or more per gallon, I'm still gonna go out when I feel like it. I'll cut back elsewhere if need be.

It takes about $16 to fill mine up. I can fish for 2 days on one tank. It would be tough if I had a big boat.

I'm with you. Boating is too important to cut back on. I economize enough as it is.

Re: How Much

Yep!

I just did some quick figuring. For me gas would need to hit $15.00-$20.00/gal before I would have to cut somewhere else (I included increases in other costs of living, highest potential increases are food in my case).

Lake fishing costs are next to nothing with the 12 and 14 jon boats
(perfect size for Orange lake). I don't go on the water for skiing and tubing and such I fish, hunt and camp. Cross Creek connects Orange Lake to Lochloosa so there is about 20,000 plus acres of lake for freshwater fishing and such. Off shore trips are the ones that suck some cash. But money is for spending. :D

... and for the first time last week, I heard our presidential candidates actually acknowledged gas prices as an issue and discuss them. I still don't think they have figured out yet that it isn't just an issue, it is THE issue that will influence the votes of more than twice as many voters as the next most important issue. It will probably be the deciding factor in the race.

"THE" issue? Are you serious?
Are we really that self centered and selfish?

And what are any of the politicians do about it, anyway? Figure out a way to artificially lower prices so that demand is increased, and the oil companies raise prices yet again to decrease demand!

Re: How Much

I paid only $3.85 this morning. I wanted to get our van and pickup and fill them up at these prices. Thats not too bad but i had to be at work so i didnt have time to fuel up at these low prices. I know that by the time im off work the price will be $3.86 and it wont be worth it!

You think im crazy? Think about the polititions that wont allow the newer higher MPG cars in the country cause they are not safe enough or they pollute too much or they dont have catalytic converter's that are up to standards! I wouldnt mind paying as much for gas if i could get more miles per gallon. The technology is there but thats just it. ITS THERE! not here. Its in every other country! the enviornmental wacko's prevent us from having these cars!

How about ending this silly war for which we've had to borrow 3,613,830,000,000 Chinese yuan (517 Billion dollars, or $1,721 for each person). Our debt is one of the main reasons the dollar won't buy what it used to, including oil.

Now you're talking sense, there, BB. Shame on you.

Don't you know the *REAL* issue is who wears a flag pin?
