Re: How NOT to break in an engine ( Cash for Clunkers engine destruction ) :(

I have had horrible service from the United States post office this year. Very slow delivering my water bill, lost a package that they left a note in my mail box stating they had, several times a year they deliver the wrong mail to me, makes me wonder where some of my mail is going and all this with rising prices. The goverment does not do things very well.
My tax dollars going to buy older cars is one of those things that the goverment needs to keep it hand off of. WE cannot support everyone. we all need to work hard and be able to keep our earnings. Government is way to big, they are spending money our grandkids grandkids will still be paying off. WE as a nation cannot afford what is going on today we are bankrupt and china will stop buying our debt and the dollar will be no more in our life times. And Global warming /green house gases are a joke, read some real sceintific data. We are in a global cooling trend this past few years and look at weather change prior to the 1800's, what do you think they called the climate change after the little ice age, global warming. there has been global climate change for a very long time. I agree with being good stewards of our globe, but our goverment needs to live within it's budget because our great nation cannot sustain it's self with the path we are on. Both parties are at fault.
As much as I hate to see what is going on in this world I have to keep all this in perspective that God sets up kings and he brings down kings to complete his overall plan

Wow. I'm amazed you were able to say all of that without getting political.

I disagree with virtually everything you have to say, but I will defend with my life iBoats' right to tell you to NOT SAY IT HERE!!!!

nothing will ever change...as long as there is greed over money nothing will change for the better...

it is said that the Government should fear you...not you fear the Government...which we all do now...problem is pure and simple...there is a saying that says..." Success should be rewarded by Wealth" problem is no one know how much wealth a successful person should have...so now we are back to greed...one successful person wants to have more wealth then his counterpart because he/she thinks they are either smarter than the next or just plain worth it...

the fact of the mater is we are all FOOLED into thinking success of a person brings the success of others so free trade is good...when one person gets rich other will follow BUT, as we all forget there is only so much money in the USA printed..so in order for a person to make money another must spend...so short order means for one to get rich others must get poor...not everyone can be rich...if they could the richest person would be just as poor as the rest of us...

Re: Gubmint.

I am a rural carrier at the post office, to everyone who can't understand what is happening with the postal service, think about it every time you click "Pay online" or "Stop paper billing". Mail volume is down 17% in the last 2 years

We have 2 great rural carriers ( 1 reg 1 sub), delivering our mail. They really have their hands full now, as they now have to pick up priority and express packages.

Nothing but good service.

Yes but, How many days did the USPS deliver your mail, WITHOUT any problems? ;)

UPS, FedEx and others have had huge rate increases also. They have their problems also.

How in the world did this thread become an argument about the USPS?

The USPS got rid of all their good purpose built mail trucks here and went to crappy GM Uplander vans.

Because both are govt run programs and both have cost the taxpayers billions and were/are dismal failures. Upping prices isn't an indication of a problem but showing a 6 billion dollar loss is. Which of those did that? Fedex, ups, or the post office? And to the poster who said the USPS is doing fine should listen to their president. It was a quote from him so if it's not true then Obama was lying.

In the cash for clunkers program which was a disaster. It was as much about C4C as the engines.

You should do your home work a little better before you start talking about things that you on't know about. The United States Postal Service is a self funded company it gets NO tax money it is entierly funded from the price of postage

Did you not see the link that was already posted or did you simply choose to ignore it?

For your viewing pleasure:

http://money.cnn.com/2009/08/03/news/companies/usps_postal_service_privatize.fortune/index.htm

So, can you explain how it's running a 10 billion dollar debt if it's run solely off of postage revenue? How exactly can it be in debt then? Please explain, my degree in finance didn't teach me that fuzzy math.

I seen the link altough i didn't need to, I am a postal employee that link didn't say anything i didn't already know. Also is proves what i said not what you said.

"Contrary to what many people might guess, the USPS is not a government agency. It hasn't received direct subsidies since the early 1980s. Aside from a miniscule fraction of its budget for free mail services for the blind and Congress' franking privileges, the Postal Service pays its own way with postage revenues, which in fiscal year 2008, reached $75 billion."

The USPS privatization plans sounds awesome.

Cut services and open 1st class mail to the competition. Great plan for success. :(

Rural delivery service is probably not a money maker, so it will likely to go also.

No, we weren't. No one made any political statements about how "great" the program was. It was quite the opposite.

It was a tongue in cheek comment. I was being facetious.

Again, if you'll look at the chronology, it started with an attack on the government, and I simply evened things out a bit.

I also have little faith in either of the parties. I also agree that we should be able to speak our minds WHERE APPROPRIATE. Dockside chat is such a place, until we start getting political. Is that really so hard to understand?

Apparently it is hard to understand. Where in these rules for Dockside Chat does it say the conversation can't be political? I think it's a perfect place to discuss issues including political ones, as long as people are respectful. From what I've read, everyone has been. People have strong opinions. There's nothing wrong with that.

Here's the rules:
"Here to talk not only about boating but just want to enjoy the huge community of members at iboats? This is the place for you! This area is highly moderated so please keep it clean, be respectful of others and just be nice."

See above red comments...... Back from Orange beach. Awesome as usual.... Boating is still alive and well on the Gulf. :) I was jealous!:(

Elkhunter338, I agree with all you said......
