I'll have to give the baggie "trick" a try. Sounds like a great idea. Wonder why I never thought of it... ;)

What if you laid down a sheet of aluminum foil in the bilge area, fold it up the back (transom) wall and press it into the drain hole. That way you could drain the oil into the bilge area floor, out the drain hole and not have to use so much degreaser. Just an idea.

with the hose drain system,do you have to add more oil on the refill to make up for the oil in the hose?
as if the engine holds 4 qts.and the filter holds1/2 qt. do you add an extra 1/2 qt. for the hose? to get a full reading on the dip stick

Fishermark-
Thanks for the link. I have one on the way. Should make next season's oil change a lot easier. I definitely prefer to drain out of the pan versus pump out of the dip stick tube.

Uraijit-
I will have to try the shop vac method. I'll be sure to have a back up pan / towel in place and remove the drain plug very gingerly...... just in case.

Update to an old thread:

Uraijit's suggestion worked great. I was very leary about whether it would work or not, but I recently tried it when I installed my oil drain hose. Not a drop of oil came out of the pan when I removed the drain plug. I did worry that my 4 year old 'assistant' would somehow unplug or turn off the shop vac while I was doing the procedure.......But it worked like a charm. Great advise!

Triple Hefty bag works for me. I'm sure I'll snag one someday, but so far so good.
