I've got a good one for ya'.

I was returning to the ramp yesterday and bumped into a friend there who had just launched his Denali. The story is that his boat was at the dock and he pulled up in the Denali to load some stuff onto the boat. While he was sitting in the driver seat one of the kids fell off the boat into the water. He jumped out of the truck to fish the kid out of the water but forgot to put it into park. Locations and names have been changed to protect the innocent:D

Oh man! That is one horrendously beautiful truck to sink like that :(

How does one even fix a submerged vehicle? Does it instantly become a total loss? I'll buy it back from the ins company for $1000 :p

Next up, Lowkee's Denali resto!

Maybe you should not have said that you "bumped into a..."? Is there really more to the story? Just wondering... :D

It should be totaled by the insurance. The electronics alone will cost an unbeleiveable amount to replace. Air bags, instruments, transmission, the list goes on for ever. Likely won't be a Carfax report on it either.

The vehicle will be totaled..

As far as a replacement? I don't know enough about insurance to see if they would cover it.

Re: How NOT to launch a Denali

Thats why whenever i leave the truck on the ramp, I crank the wheels to full lock and usually use 4wd on the ramp. That way at least it wont go in the water, and in 4wd it doesnt like turning, further helping my truck stay on ground not water.

That is why I think some people are just dumb. No offense - but I don't care what is happening. When there is something like that I have ALWAYS performed exactly what needs to happen.

I could probably get out of the car while putting it in park before he was out his door.

"forgot to put it in park"

The guy should have his license suspended. Who reminds him to breath when he forgets?

I hope insurance tells him to take a flying fawk at a rolling donut.

I noticed the Sea Grapes in the background, i dont think they grow near "Freshwater" i have only ever seen them near "Saltwater" and if it is in fact saltwater, that vechicle is done. i also noticed the wrecker driver has a bucket on his truck which i assume was used to rinse the saltwater off the wrecker deck.

Hey, I wasn't the one in the driver's seat so I can't speak for the owner of the truck.

I'm sure you always perform flawlessly in panic situations. If I ever have to choose between my child and my truck guess which one is going to get saved.

People panic, s**t happens, cut the guy some slack.

I say he should get flogged in the town center! Think how long the boat ramp was blocked! That's a capitol offense right there, buddy! ;)

sucks for sure. but i'm sure it could have easily been avoided.

was there no one else in the boat watching the kids?
how do you get stuff out of the truck without putting it in park at least?

we all pay for stuff like this.

No, he's an idiot IMO. Takes a millisecond to put the vehicle in park. No one watching the kids?!?!?!

No compassion in my book.

Some perform under pressure, some act like chickens with their head cut off.

For sure it could have been avoided. I've done plenty of stupid things in my life that could have been avoided.

Re: How NOT to launch a Denali

considering he saw a child fall overboard, I'd give him a pass. It's not like he saw a cooler top blow overboard or a dog jump in. We don't know if he had just pulled up when the child fell in and was still in gear, maybe even still moving. Falling over at a dock is serious due to all the structure he could get caught under, or that he could hit his head on the fall, too.

Re: How NOT to launch a Denali

I'm sorry, but the more I read the original post and look at the pictures, the fishier the story gets...

Question: Was the boat moored at the dock or towed and launched?

If it was moored, how did the kids get into the boat from the truck? Wouldn't the truck be parked while loading the kids?

If it was launched, why wasn't the extra gear loaded with the kids? We prep and load the boat BEFORE heading to the launch ramp.

Maybe its just me, but it doesn't make sense. The Denali went in front first, not backed up to load gear. No trailer.

And, I know, Chrishick is only the messenger posting something funny. I appreciate the laugh, even if at other people's expense. :p

Re: How NOT to launch a Denali

Although it doesn't specifically state it in the OP my guess is the kid wasn't wearing a PFD and edvidently couldn't swim either. NOW THAT's NOT FUNNY!
No slack from me...pretty poor planning from what I read and see.:mad:
