Re: How often do you run your bilge pump/ How often should it kick in?
I've only had my bilge pump come on once in the past 5 years. That was when "dumb butt" (me) took the intake hose off the raw water washdown pump to drain the hose for the winter and forget to put it back on the next time I went out.
About 10 miles out, I noticed the pump light going off and on while under way. We stopped to check it out and the light went off. Took of again and the pump light came on again. I pulled access cover and the bilge was empty. My first thoguht was a loose wire. It took three iterations of this before I figured out the problem.
I have a scoop intake and the outlet is above the water line. The only time water would come out of the hose was when I was underway.
