How often will you change elbow gaskets on 5.7L Volvo GSI

Hi,

I just had new manifolds/ elbows and gaskets installed and plan on checking the torque of the 4 elbow bolts every season. However how often should I replace the elbow gaskets to avoid a possible leak (water in cylinders). I am running in salt water and with a raw water cooled set-up. From every trip I flush the engine with freshwater though. Every season I do abt. 50 hours on the engine.... Any idea ? - Want to take good care of the engine and try to avoid expensive repairs....

Usually once they are on they stay that way.If they develope a leak it's usually right away. But if you want to make sure then you can do it evey year. I wouldn't if it were me.Once a riser/manifold mating surface starts to rot then working on it or changing gaskets on it it can cause more trouble.J

Hi again,

Thanks for this info - makes sense. I will only check the torque of the bolts once a season then. However please tell me when you guys will suspect the manifolds/ elbows to be worn out... every 5th year or so when running in salt water?? - Better safe than sorry.

The ones I bought were not OEM parts but they are not the cheap chinese parts (GLM or similar). They are US made (from Michigan Motorz) - ard. USD 650 (2 manifold and 2 knees).
