Hi All,

I was wondering how oftern the water impellers should be changed. I am a new owner of a 1987 Four Winns 190 w/Alpha 1 outdrive and have no idea when it was changed last. The boat runs great right now, and has no problems overheating. I was just curious if anyone had any suggestions? I heard that these should be changed every year.

Thanks!
Jeff

I was told every couple of years on the Alpha 1 Gen 1. I think it also depends on the water you are in and how much you are on the beach with your boat.

also depends on how good you are at only running the engine with water, like having the hose connected while running it on the trailer.

since you don't know what the original owner did or how old that thing is, i'd change it. you're gonna have to figure that out eventually, don't wait for the oh sh!t factor to force it.

I am with salty87
the O S factor can get very expensive and the price of the pump does not change regardless of anyother repairs a bad one leaves you with.

It is much more critical to change regularly if you have a 3.7L with closed cooling (190 in-line 4???). It is the only "pump" on the raw water side...without good circulation you'll over heat.

Welcome to the board...

Thanks for the advice everyone, I agree with the OS factor!! I found a co-worker who also has an Alpha 1 outdrive, and more importantly the experience, and he offered to help me.

Take care...

Jeff

Backacres---what else do you not know about this boat? Get all the records or grill the guy who sold it to you, or the guy who sold it to him, until you find out what the history is. Could save you thousands in the long run.
