How old is too old to let your kid run around naked....outside?

Personally, I don't think I'll ever let my son run around in the street naked, but for some reason, my neighbors don't have the same opinion about it. They have 3 boys. 6, 4, and 2 1/2. Today the ice cream truck comes pulling into our court and the little one comes out in diapers and a t-shirt, shortly followed by the 4 year old and the 6 year old who are both totally naked. The parents come casually walking out, get their ice cream, and all walk back inside. Now, I've seen the youngest run outside naked and even the 4 year old, but the 6 year old is going to be in first grade in a few weeks and to me, that's just crazy. So, how old is too old? I thought it was strange to have the little one outside naked without running out and grabbing him and at least sliding some shorts on him or something. I usually just chuckle for a second and walk inside, but today it just seemed weird.

Yeah, I wouldn't be comfy with a nekkid six year old running around the hood, or for that matter a four year old either. Both are too old IMO. These neighbors aren't from another country by chance are they? I know them furners have different views on this sort of thing.

I thought this was the norm for 3rd world countries and these kids are just a step ahead of the falling ball, specially up in your neck of the woods !! Down here they would be crispy critters in no time if outdoor in this weather.

Maybe I am old school, but none of them. I would let the young one play nude in a splash pool just because of the diaper issues, but I would not want everyone out there - weirdos and all - see my kids running naked in the street.

semi naked maybe but i would let my kids play in the house naked even when they were little and im from the uk which is no where near as prudish. maybe im old fashion because even now i make sure my kids change from pj's to normal cloths once im out of bed and theres a chance that someone like a neighbour might pop round. i see it as lazyness if the kids are not fully dressed by 10am even on the weekend. now if the parent were also naked when getting there ice cream then i could accept that they are natrualists my only concern would be where they were keeping the money to pay for the ice creams.

They're typical, white suburban Americans. One teaches theology at a local catholic HS and the other works in a bank or something. Nice people and actually the neighbors we talk to the most. Not that we hang out or anything, but we talk a lot. I don't feel like it's my place to say something, because it's not like it bothers me that much. It just seems out of the ordinary.

Up to 23-1/2 months is generally considered OK. After that it's wierd.

Uhhhhh...couldn't resist thread, thought it was a joke, but.....In this age of perversion and predators, you are seriously sick to let your children do this! Please intervene for thier sake. I am not a fan of the nanny state but if that is the only way to keep the kids safe when the parents are so out of touch, then so be it.

I had to quit doing it because of the Fire ants Seriously, you don't go outside here barefooted or even with flip flops on unless you like Fire ant stings. You don't have to step on their nest because they are everywhere scavenging for food. On driveways and walk ways etc I got 2 bites on my stomach now and I can't figure out how they got me there.
Anyway, out of diapers, then put some clothes on

My take is that when they can run, they should be dressed.

Mine never ran around nekkid, inside or outside, her children, 2 boys, never ran around nekkid. Keep some clothes on them all ways.

I can imagine the kids doing this unsupervised but when I read "the parents come casually walking out......" It makes me think they ( parents) are encouraging or somehow flaunting this type of behavior, or they're just nuts. I don't agree w this at all in public. On your property, or a nudist park, isolated or behind a tall privacy fence would be your own families business.

Not at all, in my opinion. Dress your kids, as that will teach them what we percieve as proper social behavior. It is unacceptable in the U.S. to run around in public nude (except in quite controlled invironments). Besides.....the nude human body isn't really all that pretty of a sight.

I agree with the intervention suggestion, on different grounds. One of the neighbors will eventually call child protection services, and that will be all it takes for the "offending" neighbor to have every bit of thier privacy stripped from them for years to come. One overzealous biped of a CPS agent just may find it cause enough to immediately remove the children for thier "own protection", and could very well lead to questions of possible sexual abuse. (I'm not suggesting that that is happening, I'm saying the CPS agent will certainly raise such questions.)
I suggest you have a talk concerning such issues with the "offending" parents, and suggest the same things I have raised here.

It may well end the "problem" on the same day.

My boys 7 and 11 get squirrly and will goof around after a bath naked in the house but it is unfathomable for that type of thing to continue outside. I can only presume the parents are extra liberal, lazy, poor or maybe just too tired to care.
