How should I store tires?

Somehow I've ended up with 4 sets of good tires and no particular use for them. I want to store them under my deck, which is covered from rain and sun, though still somewhat damp.

What's the best way to store them? Should I lay them down flat or stand them up? Should I put a board underneath or can they just sit on the dirt? Some have wheels...should I let the air out of those?

Wine is one of the few things that get better with age, I suggest you sell them and buy new tires when you need them. At the very least let the air out and place them on a sheet of plastic to reduce the rusting of the rims.

Under your deck there will be insects, rodents, ground water, high humidity, combined with temp fluctuations and freeze/thaw cycles. Tires will do nothing but rot, as well as provide an outstanding home for mice, snakes, roaches, and ants, which will then attempt to enter your home. The tires will become unsafe to use by the time you need them. Use Ebay or the local classified ads to dump 'em and take the cash.

Go to a local tire company and get the tire storage bags. Yes I would store them on something solid like a sheet of plywood. This will keep them dry and keep the bugs out. You can store them on their side and they will retain their shape. I store my snows every year this way.

Concur with Bob_VT and magster65. I would only add that if stored for a long time you should flip them over every 6 months and store on the opposite side for the subsequent 6 months.

I see you are installing your own mosquito breeder and right under your deck. If water gets into the tires that have no rims it will be a perfect place for the mosquitos to lay eggs.
