ok, '77 e-rude

after some repairs, some of which benifited from helpul advice here, it seems to perform properly. No more white smoke, good compression on all 4, doesn't stall at idle, and does everything I ask of it. Good times had by all.

But it doesn't really purr at idle. The rpm sounds reasonable, but I don't have a guage so who really knows.

This is my first outboard. How should it sound at idle? Do they smoothly purr like a car, or do they sound a tad uneven. Thats how I'd describe mine. a tad uneven.

I'd post a clip, but lack the means to make a video/audio clip.

Conversly, if there is audio of a similar engine idling as it should, i'd love to hear it

thanks

Hard to say much on this one. Does it sound "lumpy" or consistent ???
Try googling it or You Tube and see if you can find one there.

Well they don't sound as smooth as a car in my opinion but should really be consistent. What motor are we talking about here??. Post that and you may get a more meaningful conversation with another owner of the same motor.
