How soon can I epoxy & glass over 5200?

Hello. Just finished replacing a small section of my deck. Used 5200 to bond to some joists I sistered in and to seal a couple of small gaps. How soon can I use epoxy resin and fiberglass over the 5200? Package says it cures in 7 days! Is 24 hours too soon? Also, Should I screw the new piece down or will the combo of 5200 below and glassing in from above be enough?

5200 cures in the presence of water, so moisture in the air is a factor I think. I'd wait if you can.

Sounds like you used 5200 to glue down the deck, did you use it to attach stringer parts too?

It's a 15" x 26" repair on a soft spot. Stringers were fine. I sistered in(screwed) wood to the stringers. Put 5200 on the sistered wood. Deck was 1" thick in this area (over the gas tank). I used two pieces of 1/2".

Okay, so you sealed the screws in, then? Sounds okay.

Good for a couple years' fix, anyway

Thanks for the replies. I called 3M. They said I should hold off glassing for a week, but I can use the boat this weekend. I'll just cover the area for now, though it looks like rain for the weekend. I couldn't believe how quickly I was in touch with somebody who knew what he was talking about at 3M. I just called the main number. He did say they have a quick-cure version of 5200. Wish west marine carried that!

Dr.; I grew up in the city durring the dead things time. Sure hope #13 is in the lineup on Sat.

home depot has 5200 for a fraction of the price of WM
