How the ______ does this thing work???

Just picked up a free tube but noticed it has this funny looking tow hook on it, rather than the one with a hole and dog ears for easy connection. Anyone ever see or use one of these? Do you just jam your rope loop into this hook and go. I would think getting your rope out after the tension snugged it up tight would be tough. Thanks for any info.

It's a quick release hook, you just jam your loop over it and off you go ....

The only one I've ever seen like that twisted sideways to release the line.
