I am replacing the impeller in a 1972 Johnson 125HP. How tight is the impeller in the impeller housing. I have to force it in to get it to fit.

Its designed to be a bit tight so it will do its job, be sure you have the right impeller though. You will notice its also meant to turn off centre in the housing to create pressure and suction.

Edit: Just looked up the number, the impeller you are trying to fit should be 0385072.

Put a little soapy water on the impeller, and twist the direction of rotation and push it into place. They fit tight and fins will be curved.

a little vaseline works well too. make sure all your fins are bent properly in the same direction. motor runs CW, but impeller will look as if spinning CCW when you look at it upside down in the housing. great link from kenmyfam too.
