What most people do is just install a water separating fuel filter kit between the tank and your engine filter. Here is an example of the kits.

You will also need enough type A1 fuel hose and some mini clamps for the fuel hose.
Just replace the element as necessary. (DO NOT remove, empty, and reinstall the old filter element)
If you have a lot of water in your tank, you probably need to get it out with a pump and not try to do it with filters.

What is the difference between that and what I already have?
I was thinking something that would catch larger particles to ease what is going into the main filter......I am guessing that is not an option?

Size, the filter is the size of a standard Chevy oil filter.

If you have have enough trash in your tank to plug up that filter, you need to either clean the tank or replace it. The fuel pickup tube in the tank has a screen on it to stop big chunks, if it gets clogged up you can't get fuel to the filter anyway. IF you have water, like I said before you need to get the water pumped out of the tank (Leave the gas, only pump the water off the bottom of the tank).
