I have a 71' 60hp Evinrude. I recently had the carbs rebuilt and am currently replacing the water pump and impeller. When i ran the motor after the carb rebuild i noticed that occasionaly the motor would stall out or die at low speed. It idles ok, but every once in awhile when i start moving at, for lack of better terminology, no wake or slightly above no wake speeds it would sputter a bit then die. It restarts no problem, but for some reason needs to be choked everytime (something that wasnt necessary before the rebuild). Is my lean/rich setting set incorrectly, or do the carbs need some fine tuning? There are slow/ idle speed adjustments on each carb that can be accessed easily by just popping off the caps on the plate in front of the carbs...If they need adjusting to solve my problem, how would i go about adjusting a 3 carb system? Thanks much in advance.

Hi, Pony.

What you need to do is called "link 'n' synch" to synchronize your 3 carbs and the ignition advance, all of which "run" off the throttle setting.

You need a Repair Manual to do that correctly. It is too complex to do it "shade tree".

Good luck. :)

Thanks a bunch JB....Is there a specific manual anyone recomends, or is the Seloc on the bottom of this page sufficient?

pony,

The Seloc will be fine. It does a good job of describing the Sync. and Link procedure.

Also,I have found it's beneficial to set the idle mixture screws as lean as will provide a decent idle.

Too rich on the idle side creates a bog situation sometimes.

Thanks, i appreciate the input. I will definately adjust to a leaner mix that still idles well. You guys are a great help.
