How To Adjust The Idle

I have a 1983 Mercedes 19 foot walkthrough boat with an inboard outboard Mercury mercruiser. This is a new boat to me. It does not idle well, and when you put it in gear it will die many times making it hard to get away from the fuel dock, and trying to idle into a slip. It is really frustrating and I was wondering if y'all can tell me how to adjust the idel!

If it dies when shifting into gear??
That sounds like it needs a lower shift cable.
Get a factory manual or even an aftermarket
manual and read up on the troubleshooting section.

This is also in the wrong section, a moderator will
come along and move it to the "Mercruiser" section.

Not idling well may mean a fuel issue--and not just that the idle needs to be adjusted. What RPM's is it idling at when it does? Have you checked the fuel filters? carb good and clean?
