How to arrange the bunks....?

Obviously, it's time to replace my bunks before I gouge a hole in the glass and end up in the resto threads:

EEEK! I really didn't realize it was that bad!

After a little poking around on iBoats, I have a plan to 'safely' :)eek:) pull the trailer out. But when I do, I can see I need to rethink the bunk setup. Check these images. Of the only two bunks, they just don't align very well:

The budget is tight so I'll just be purchasing some treated 2x4's, or maybe 2x6's and some I/O carpet and stainless steel staples, but I'd like to hear any ideas to improve the current set up. The bolts that hold on the existing bunks are rusty, so I may end up grinding those off. When I do, I can move the bunks in closer so it's a better fit.

The pics talk for themselves I think, so I'm open to any and all ideas, links, drawings, tea leaf readings.... whatever.

Thanks!

IMHO, the bunks are where they should be and you've got a good handle on how to fix them. In response to the title to your thread, beer drinkers on the bottom.:)

I just looked at the pictures again and imagined I'd never loaded it at the dock before. I have to say, the pictures actually look pretty good. But it's one of those cases where the pictures look good, but loading it is a b17ch!

If it's off by about 1.5-2 inches, the boat settles way off both bunks.
The only way I've found to load it is stand in the water, put my index finger between the bunk and the boat while my wife SLOWLY pulls the truck and trailer out. I can feel when it's just right and I pull my finger out at the last second. Too fast or too many waves, and we back up and try again. It's really difficult to load, and I fear this technique might only work 10 times if things go wrong. :(:p

But, we're first time boat owners, maybe it's not supposed to be real simple.....

Only my opinion but that trailer does not look like a good match to that boat.

I would also look for new bunk brackets that will allow the bunks to tilt and move them off the strakes. A bit more added exspense but I think it would solve many of your problems loading and provide better support. It also looks as if there are a number of keel rollers on that trailer. If so are they all making contact?

Yes, all the rollers are making contact.
I'll look into new bunk brackets. I bet I can get them here on iBoats...

I haven't looked in the iBoats store for trailer parts in a long time but I would bet that thet do have them. Best of luck on your project, let us kow how it works out!
