Just be yourself....Look her in the eye (or eyes, if'n shes got two),and ask her.....
I knew a beautiful woman with a lazy eye and it was distracting! If they start to look crossed you might be too close!

Don't worry about the ring. Even if its not the one she would have picked herself, she will love that you took the time to find one to surprise her with.
As far as the proposal itself, well there are alot of ways you can go with it but remember this is a story she will be asked to tell by all of her friends and most of her family. Bob started his proposal by picking a fight with me first thing in the morning, I left for work in tears, and when we came home he proposed to me while we were changing out of our work clothes. I still said yes!
You're fiance-to-be might like something a little different though.
Perhaps you could cook her a nice dinner and give her the ring at dessert. A bit of a cliche perhaps but it works. You get extra points if you don't leave the kitchen a mess. Keep it simple and from the heart. Women really don't need a huge display, just being asked by the man we love is generally enough. Good luck! (and let us know how it turns out)
