I picked up my new boat and new motor today saturday, a 25 hp 2 stroke 2005 mercury. Unfortunately, no owners manual. I will call the dealer monday for the manual.

Now the dealer gave me a general idea. He said to run 25 to 1 ( twice the oil) for the first tank full and not to stay at any particular speed for a long amount of time. He said the breakin period is ten hours for a 25 hp.

Well. I have no way of checking and I hope to go out tomorrow Sunday for a few hours to try the boat out. Any assurance of this would be much appreciated.

I have tried to find this info on the web but mercury refers one to the owners manual.

Thanks again!

25:1 FOR 10 HOURS IS YOUR BEST BET, NOT HAVING A MANUAL...
Sorry for the caps...Daughter has been playing and I don't look up much... :)

These are the types of things that your dealer should go over with you when you pick up your outboard.

It's really not more than what's been said. 10 hours at variating speeds and not holding it wide open for an extended period is all you need to do...at 25 to 1 oil. Have fun!

I slowly run my rpm's up. like 1000-2500 first 5 min, Then 1000-3500 10 min, Then just run it normal next few trips. Easy on wot at first. Like they say mix at 25:1 at first. You may want to change spark plug after break in.(When you go to 50:1 fuel mix) Tim
