how to change oil in tilt motor (stringer 400)

I bought tilt and trim lube and would like to change the oil in the tilt motor. I see a fill hole. Do i fill it to the fill hole? And how do I drain the old stuff?

I took the cover off of mine and let it drain so I could replace the seal... Replaced the seal and filled her back up. Not sure you want to go that route but with all the work you're doing, it's a very cheap/quick thing you can do that might help you out in the long run.

Mine has a drain plug in the bottom of it. Do you not have one?

The older tilt box's did not have the drain. You had to pop the cover.

Sikz... you'll have to pop the cover, but you'll need a seal kit to properly replace the cover.

Secondly, take back the trim oil... it's actually hydraulic fluid... not oil. Won't work for you.

Third, make sure you clean out the tilt box of any gunk and pack it with marine grease. Replace the cover, remove the fill screw and top off the box with the same gear oil you use in the drive.

Mine does have the drain plug at the bottom. (I just checked) If I got the wrong stuff, what do I use?

Regular 30 weight motor oil or gear lube is OK too.

OMC says use 30 weight motor oil. Also fill from the bottom hole with a pump until oil runs out of the top fill hole. When full put the top plug in first then remove and pump and install the Bottom plug.
