how do you set the timing on a 1989 200 mariner is there a high rpm seting and a low idle im lost here i see the marks on top of fly wheel

Yes, you really need a manual to help guide you but here are the basics. Find Top Dead Center. Set the pointer. Pull all of the plugs out except plug #1. Reinstall 2-4/6 and ground if system has coil packs. With the throttle on idle check for your primary timing point buy cranking the motor and using a timing light. Disconnect the throttle linkage and place throttle to wide open throttle check again for timing advance setting.
