Hey fellas',
I want to check the water tempature sending unit on my 89 Force 125 hp. Seloc says to go through all this placing in hot water, then let cool and measure ohms etc. I really just want to check high temp alarm to see if working properly. Can I simply remove the sending unit and ground it or something and make alarm sound off? Or do I have to go through all this high tech stuff?

If you are just wanting to check to see if your high temp buzzer works, just turn the key to 'on' and short the lead from the sensor to to the block/ground. Should buzz.

Re: How to check temp sending unit

Thanks Brett. I'll try that but the sending unit I have has an insulated wire going directly into the unit with no bare metal/wire to ground. I don't really want to disturb/cut the insulation around the wire. Hey, maybe I can run a hot jumper directly to the buzzer?
Still going through this new purchase and checking things. Would hate to overheat and not know it! Suggestions anyone?
Thanks again,
Greg

I would check the buzzer every now and then. It will save you from frying your motor like I did.

The insulated wire from the thermosensor should go to the terminal block, just ground the wire at that point.

If the buzzer doesn't work, get one from radio shack, 5 bucks as opposed to getting one as a force part for 30 or so. I replaced mine with one from radio shack this month, works great.

Remember though, grounding the sensor wire DOES NOT check the operation of the thermosensor itself, to check this you have to go through the process of hot water.
