I have a 1973 evinrude 50 hp. It will fire but is not getting gas. My guess is that the carbs are stopped-up. I just had a carb kit put in about a 18 months ago but i didn't crank the motor while I was restoring the interior of the boat. How do I clean the carbs with out a new carb kit?

Hi, Trey.

First, find out what is wrong, then fix it.

1. Go to FAQ and do the trouble isolation steps outlined in "Outboard Wont Start".

2. Get a Repair Manual.

3. Let us know what you found at step one. Then we can help you get her running with minimum hassle and cost.

Good luck. :)

Take them back apart and spray out he passages with carb cleaner and blow out with compressed air. Check the float levels and reassemble them. Gasket and such are probably still useable.

Since you have them apart I would put a new carb kit in. Make sure you used compressed air to blow them out after soaking. It can make the difference between a clean or dirty carb.

What everybody else said, plus I'd make sure it's not a fuel supply problem first by checking that fuel is being pumped out of the fuel pump.
